Starting at the age of 8, I read about four books a day. It was a small town, and a small library. I ended up reading most books in it. I figured eventually to have read well over 20,000.

I read less now.

Having knowledge, creativity, and the will to do the work, helps a writer immensely.

Westerns are not as popular as they once were, but they will NEVER totally go away. "Am I repeating from old memories something I've read?," etc. I don't want to be guilty of copyright infringement unknowingly or using something from other people's novels. I'm adding some books from Mr. West to be procured and read, maybe for Xmas. Later came Louis Lamour, who was also very talented, although, for the most part, his books always seemed to have been written quickly. After Mr. Lamour, I found no author who could quite capture the spirit of courage and American pride embodied by our Western heritage. That is, until I discovered the work of Charles West.
For the way he writes, Mr. West could well have been there, brushing the desert sand from his rifle and wiping the sweat from his eyes as he waited for the next wave of savages to come.
And that's what it takes to be a great author, really; the ability to put your reader in the moment, to make them care about what happens next, and to have the entire experience truly feel authentic.
Mr. West possesses this level of talent in abundance. Not since the days of Zane Grey have I finished a western novel and felt that it had been well done, until now.
Thank you, Mr. West, for bringing the American west back to us. The continued interest in the genre is due, in no small part, to your wonderful and timeless works.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3197075706983155600.post-90370152319102617142010-11-05T11:17:10.215+00:002010-11-05T11:17:10.215+00:00Very interesting.
